Buildings, Plans and Designs by Frank Lloyd Wright (1963, Horizon Press, New York) is the first American and first English‑language edition of Wright’s famed Wasmuth Portfolio, originally published in Germany in 1910. Produced in a limited edition of approximately 2,600 copies (about 2,500 available for sale), each portfolio contains 100 large architectural plates—renderings of exterior, interior, and plan views—printed on heavy archival paper, accompanied by a 32‑page booklet including an introduction by Wright, a foreword by William Wesley Peters, and a glossary or “Guide to Terms Used in the Plans”.

The plates are housed loose (as issued) within the original cloth-and-board portfolio with silk or ribbon ties, and the portfolio size measures about 25″ × 16″ (64 × 40 cm). This edition was largely reconstructed from a single surviving copy rescued from the devastating 1914 Taliesin fire, making it a near‑facsimile of the original German volume, with a few minor modifications. Each numbered copy bears a limitation marking (e.g. “104 E”) recording its place in the edition.

Recognized as one of the most influential collections of drawings in 20th‑century architecture, this facsimile enabled American readers and architects to experience Wright’s early visionary work—originally inaccessible due to loss of nearly all copies of the 1910 edition. The portfolio has shaped modern architectural discourse through its lucid presentation of Wright’s organic design philosophy and visionary compositions.
